Since there are 36 women, we can use this to find how many men by subtracting 36 from 60.
women = 36
men = 60 - 36 = 24
Now that we know there are 24 men in the class, what percentage is that of 60.
The percent formula is % = (Part ÷ Whole) x 100
In this case, the men will be our part and the total is our whole.
% = (24 ÷ 60) x 100
% = 0.4 x 100
% = 40
You could also do this another way by calculating the percent of women and subtracting from 100%.
%women = (36 ÷ 60) x 100
% = 0.6 x 100
% = 60
There are 60% women in the class and subtracting that from 100% will give you 40% men.
