Let's assume we are dealing with a rectangle. We know that the area is the length (l) times the width (w).
A = l x w
If we were to cut the dimensions in half we would get
A = (1/2)l x (1/2)w
A = (1/4)(l x w)
Therefore, the new surface are would be 1/4 of the original area:
Anew = (1/4)Aoriginal
Anew = (1/4)(496)
Anew = 124
Therefore, the new area would be 124m2.
