The question really means, how many 1/6ths are there in 7/8? So you divide 7/8 by 1/6:
7 1 7 6 42
-- ÷ -- = -- * -- = --- = 5 2/8 = 5 1/4
8 6 8 1 8
So he's been reading for 5 1/4 days.

A common denominator will need to be found between 1/6 and 7/8. you can do this by multiplying: 6 (denominator of 1/6) *(times) 8 (denominator of 7/8) 6*8= 48 1(numerator of 1/6)*8= 8 6/8=8/48 8*6=48 7*6=42 so now we can multiply to see how many times 8/48 goes into 42/48 8/48*__=42/48 (The blank in this equation will be represented by a letter such as 'X' to represent an unknown number) 8/48*21/4=42/48 and 21/4 can be simplified to 5 1/4 therefore, your answer will be 5 and 1/4 days.03/29/22
