Moving down and up would indicated that we are moving along the y-axis. If we move down along the y-axis from our point at (-2, 1) then we will arrive at a point of (-6, 1). Now if we move back up the y-axis 8 units, we will arrive at point that is at (2,1).

......
(-2, 1) ......
.... Down 4 units ......
(-6,1) .....
(-2 - 4 + 8, 1) = (2, 1)
