A moms coin purse contains a mixture of dimes and quarters. There are 5 more dimes than quarters. If the purse contains a total of $7.50, determine the number of dimes and the number of quarters in the coin purse.

But I don't know if this is write to develop my equation. Please help?

You are on the right track.  In cents, the value of your dimes should be (Q+5) * 10 and the value of your quarters is 25 * Q.  Now set the total value equal to the given value of 750 cents and solve for Q

 

(Q+5)*10 + 25*Q = 750 

10*Q + 50 + 25*Q = 750

35*Q = 700

Q = 20

 

D = Q + 5 = 25 

 

So there are 25 dimes and 20 quarters in the purse
