Hi Gosia,
This question is all about distance. The first thing we have to do is figure out how many times Erin will go to school and come back in one school week.
Alright, so how many days are in one school week? The answer is 5 (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, and Fri).
Now, how many times each day does Erin walk between school and home? The answer is 2 (there is 1 and back is 1, so 2).
Ok, so if Erin walks to school 2 times per day for 5 days then we have the first part figured out, 10 times (2x5=10). Erin walks 1/4 of a mile 10 times in one school week.
All we have to do now is figure out how far walking 1/4 of a mile 10 times would be.
10 x 1/4 = 10/4
Now make it a little more readable:
10/4 = 2 r. 2/4, or 2 1/2 miles.
So (5 days) x (2 trips per day) x (1/4 mile per trip) = 2 1/2 miles
