You can use a graphing calculator to help you solve graphically if you don't know how to graph these by hand. Desmos . com is a great tool; enter both equations. Your solution is where the lines cross. If they do not cross, there is no solution. Please note that if you are graphing inequalities, the rules about where to find your solution are slightly different.

Tim, do you not know how to graph?

y = mx + b

m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

y = -1/4x - 4

Start at (0,-4), your y-intercept. Go down 1 and right 4 (and/or up 1 and left 4). Continue.

Graph the other line. The point where they meet is your solution, the one set of x and y values that make both equations true.
