Andrea has 2 cakes. This can be expressed in many ways, but since we are considering her friends are eating 2/3's it's best to figure out how many 1/3's of cake she has.
In thirds a whole cake is equal to 3/3. Since there are 2 cakes it is 2 times as much cake or 6/3.
From here we need to figure out how many times 2/3's can be taken from that. When add or subtracting fractions if they have the same denominator(Bottom number) then we ca simply add and subtract the numerator(top).
2/3 + 2/3 +2/3 = 6/3.
So 3 friends can share the cake if each eats 2/3's.
