Let x = width
Let 2x+5 = length
Area = length x width Plug in the values
52=x(2x+5) Now need to solve this for x. Start with the distributive property on the right side
52=2x2+5x Subtract 52 from both sides of the equation
0=2x2+5x-52 Factor
0=(2x+13)(x-4) Set each factor equal to zero and solve
2x+13=0 (will be negative, this cannot be a solution)
x-4=0 Add 4 to both sides
x=4 is the width
To find the length:
2(4)+5=13 m is the length of the pool
