A circus charges $5 per child ticket and $8 per adult ticket. There were 136 tickets sold for a total of $830. How many child tickets and how many adult tickets were purchased?

C=child tickets, A=adult tickets

C + A = 136

5C + 8A = 830

This situation is always a toss up as to which is easiest.

I almost always prefer elimination, like this

5C + 5A = 680

Subtract 3A = 150

A=50

Then go back and get the A from the 1st equation. Don't forget to check your work.
