The biggest clue into a student's opinion of the teacher will come in nonverbal cues. Do they seem like they're engaged, listening, facing you when you're speaking? Secondly, do they seem motivated to participate and learn, and open to speaking with you? Students, especially in elementary school, are working on their views of themselves and the world around them, and are constantly absorbing information. Your respect for them in their journey, as well as being knowledgeable, consistent, and approachable, will usually result in their respect for you.
