Writing A College Algebra Reference Book, Apply Educational Psychology
How do I solve the rate of change for this equation?
rate of change is slope.
so write in a slope form:
Recall y=mx+b, where m is slope
y=0.5(x-2)+6
y=0.5x+5
m=0.5 (rate of change is 0.5 )
meaning when x change by 1, y change half of 1,which is 0.5, compared to previous y value.
ex:
when x=0, y=5
when x=1, y=5.5
when x=2, y=6
when x=3, y=6.5
when x=4, y=7
you see pattern here? when x increase by 1, y increase by 0.5, which is half of 1.
let us test another value:
when x=4, y=7
when x=8, y=9
when x=12, y=11.
you see pattern here? when x increase by 4, y increase by 2, which is half of 4.
I hope this helps.
Please, give me sum up if you like it.
give me sum down if you do not like it.
give me explanation if I am wrong.
give me any comments regarding my answers.
Thanks!
