m = number made by Megan

p = number made by Polly

s + m + p = 36

s = m + 4 ⇒ m = s - 4

s = p + 2 ⇒ p = s - 2

Therefore,

s + (s - 4) + (s - 2) = 36

3s - 6 = 36

3s = 42

s = 14
