Let the length is x and the width is y, so
since the length is 5 cm greater than the width then x=y+5
since the area is 126 cm2 then xy=(y+5)y=126
which means that y2+5y=126 which implies that y is either -14 (which is a rejected solution) or 9 (accepted solution) and then x=9+5=14
so the length is 14 cm and the width is 9 cm
