The left and right page numbers of an open book are two consecutive intergers whose sum is 389. What are the page numbers?

Let N equal the first page, then N+1 equal the second page since they are consecutive pages.

N + N + 1 = 389 then combine like terms to get

2N + 1 = 389 subtract 1 from both sides

2N = 388 then divide both sides by 2 to solve for N

N = 194.

the first page is 194, the second page is 195. 194 + 195 = 389.

2x+1-1=389-1 Simplify
