Parallel lines have the same slope. In the slope-intercept form, y = mx + b, the variable m represents the slope and the variable b represents the y-intercept.
For the equation, y = 4 x - 4, the slope is 4. Therefore, the slope of any parallel line will also be 4.
Next, substitute the x and y coordinates for the point provided (3,11) to determine the y-intercept of the new line:
y = mx + b
y = 4x + b
11 = 4 •3 + b
11 = 12 + b
11-12 = 12 + b -12
-1 = b
The equation of the new line will be:
y = 4x - 1
