Note there is a common difference between consecutive terms.
9 - 4 = 5
14 - 9 = 5
19 - 14 = 5
etc.
That makes it an arithmetic series. Let a1 = 4. Note that
a2 = a1 + 5 = 9
a3 = a1 + 5 + 5 = a1 + (3 - 1)(5) = 14
a4 = a1 + 5 + 5 + 5 = a1 + (4 - 1)(5) = 19
Can you see the pattern here?
an+1 = an + 5
an = a1 + 5(n - 1) = 4 + 5(n - 1)
an = 4 + 5(n - 1)
Plug in n=99 to get a99,
