Let I=Ishaan's age; Let C=Christopher's age
- C=I-20 (because Christopher is 20 years younger than Ishaan)
- I-14=3*(C-14) (Because 14 years ago, Ishaan was 3 times older than Christopher. So, subtract C and I by 14. But also multiply C-14*3 since that equals Ishaan's age 14 years ago.)
Substitute the first equation into the second equation for C, so I-14=3*(C-14) is now I-14=3*(I-20-14)
Solve this equation
I-14=3*(I-34)
I-14=3I-102
Do subtraction and addition on both sides
I-14+102=3I-102+102
I+88=3I
I+88-I=3I-I
88=2I
Divide by 2 on both sides. 88/2=I. I=44. Substitute this into the first equation, C=I-20.
C=44-20=24.
So, Ishaan is 44 while Christopher is 24.
