What is -12 and -02 ?
- If you mean (-1)2 and (-0)2
- First, there is no such thing as -0, so (-0)2 is really just (0)2
- Zero to a power is zero, so 02 = 0
- Next (-1)2 = (-1)*(-1) = 1
- In this case the answer to your question is (-1)2 = 1 and (0)2 = 0
- If you mean -(12) and -(02)
- First, zero to a power is zero, so 02 = 0
- There is no such thing as -0, so -(0) is really just 0
- Next -(12) = -(1*1) = -(1) = -1
- In this case the answer to your question is -(12) = -1 and -(0)2 = 0
If f(x) = -x2 + 4x+ 5, then what is f(-1)?
- When substituting a value for x, always include parentheses to ensure values are properly substituted
- f(-1) = -(-1)2 + 4(-1) + 5
- f(-1) = -(1) - 4 + 5
- f(-1) = 5 - 4 - 1 = 0
- Therefore, when f(x) = -x2 + 4x+ 5.—> f(-1) = 0
- This can also be expressed by the ordered pair (-1, 0)
