If the car moves at 57 mph for 4.5 hours, it will travel a distance of 57 mph x 4.5 h = 256.5 mi.
Suppose you wanted to find the time t needed to travel some distance at a given rate. Rearrange the terms of d = rt by dividing both sides by r.
This makes t = d/r.
As an example, assume you want to find the time needed to travel 900 miles at 75 mph.
t = d/r = 900/75 = 12 hr.
