In order to find the slope and the y-intercept, you want the equation in the form of y = mx+b, with the y isolated on one side.
Divide both sides by 8 in order to isolate the y. This gives you the equation y=(5/8)x + 3
Therefore, m = 5/8 and b = 3. This means that the slope is 5/8 and the y intercept is 3.
