Doctor King wrote about how 100 years after slaves were freed by the emancipation proclamation of 1863--King addressed the state of racial discrimination in 1962.
Doctor King stated that the "...negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination." He also stated that "the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity."
Hope this helps!
