A student needs at least 80%

A student needs at least 80% of all points on the test in class to get a B. There are three 100-point tests and one 250-final test. The student's test scores are 72,85 and 78 for the 100 point tests. What is the least score the student can make on the final and still make a B?

There are a total of 100 + 100 + 100 + 250 = 550 possible points.  80% of 550 = 0.80(550) = 440

 

points needed on final exam = 440 - 72 - 85 - 78 = 205

 

The student needs 205/250 = 82% on the final to get a B.

.8*550 gives the total number of points required for a B which is equal to 440.  

 

So far she has 72+85+78=235 points so she needs 440-235=205 points on the 250 point final.
