Before you dig into this problem, recall that: 2 and 5/6ths is equal to 12/6ths (12 divided by 6 =2) plus 5/6ths, or 17/6ths. Also recall: When multiplying fractions they don't have to have the same denominators as is required to add or subtract fractions.
Now that we have 2 5/6ths converted into 17/6, we can do the same for 4 and find the answer.
4, if converted to a fraction over 6, is equal to 4 times the denominator (6), all over 6. 4*6=24, so our new fraction is 24/6.
Now we can just multiply (17/6)*(24/6). Remember, for multiplying fractions we just multiply straight across so we do 17*24 and 6*6. 17*24=408 and 6*6=36. Our new answer is therefore 408/36, or 11 and 12/36ths. After simplifying 12/36 to 1/3 (divide both numerator and denominator by 12), our final answer is 11 1/3rd.
