Since the ratio of puppies to adult dogs is 1:4 , there are a total of 5 dogs represented in the ratio - 1 puppy for 4 adult dogs.
Then we can create a pair of equivalent ratios for adult dogs to the total:
4 adult dogs = x adult dogs
5 total dogs 125 total dogs
You can multiply 5 by 25 to get 125 , so 4 times 25 is 100 adult dogs.
There will be 100 adult dogs out of the 125 total .
