We can write the equation 4 hot dogs = $9. If we divide both sides by 4, we find 1 hot dog = $9/4 = $2.25.
Hope this helps.

$2.25 for one hot dog. 4 x $2.25 = $9
Unless there was a volume discount, such as buy 3 get 1 free, then each dog cost $3 for the 1st 3, and $0 for the last dog. But even then the effective price of each was $2.25. The volume discount was equivalent to 75 cents discount on each dog, if each originally was $3
