Let x = number of hours Judy studied

2x = number of hours Asia studied

Number of hours Judy studied + number of hours Asia studied = Total hours studied

Plugging in values and expressions

x + 2x = 9 Combine like terms

3x = 9 Divide both sides by 3

x=3

Judy studied 3 hours while Asia studied 6 hours.
