Determine the initial velocity of the baseball and the height of the ball when hit. Round to the nearest hundredth.

Calculate how many seconds an outfielder has to position himself for the catch if he intends to catch the ball 6 feet above the ground round to the nearest hundredth

Y=-15.90x^2+ 110.48x +3.02

The initial velocity is 110.48 feet/second because the general equation is

Y = y₀ + v₀t +(1/2)at²

To catch the ball 6' above the ground, the equation is

6 = -15.90x^2+ 110.48x +3.02 yielding

0 = -15.90x^2+ 110.48x -2.98

Solving this yields x = 6.92 seconds for the fielder to get to the spot.
