Here's what we know:
d = 4y + 5 (the older persons age is 5 more years than 4 times the younger's)
d + y = 25
We have a value for d, so we can use substitution for this problem:
4y + 5 + y = 25
5y + 5 = 25
Subtract 5:
5y = 20
Divide by 5:
y = 4
You can then find the older person's age by just solving the following on your own:
d = 4 * 4 + 5
