Billy, A function is a rule. In this case, a function called "g" takes something, called x, squares it, multiplies the result by 4 and adds the thing, x, to that result, and finally adds 7 to all of that.

So this problem asks you to apply the rule, "g", to a number, 2.

Take 2, square it, you get 4

Take 4, multiply it by 4, you get 16

Take 16 and add the original number 2 to it, you get 18

Take 18, and add 7 to it, you get 25.

Rule, or function, g just does that set of operations to anything you feed to it -- as long as the operations have meaning. Give it a turkey, we could add another turkey, but we can't square it, for example.
