Write in slope-intercept form an equation of a line that passes through the point (8, 2) that is parallel to the graph of the equation y= 4x-3.

How would I find the answer? This is from Big Ideas Math Blue Book (Pre-Algebra).

y = mx + b


Parallel lines have equal slopes, so


m = 4


y = 4x + b


Use the given point to find b.


2 = 4(8) + b


Solve for b and finish from here.

No, the answer I gave you is correct. b = 2-4(8) = -30. y = 4x - 30. Test it. It has the correct slope of 4, and passes through (8,2). 4x-30 = 4(8)-30 = 32-30 = 2
