The final bill would be $6.75.  

 

To get there, we must add up all of the items in your bill.  So, just the burger and bowl of chili in this problem. Doing that gets us: $4.50 + $1.75 = $6.25.  Not done yet though, sales tax is included in the final bill and is a percentage of the $6.25 that we just solved for.  So we do: $6.25 x 8%, where 8% can also be written as 0.08.  So now we add that in there: $6.25 x 0.08 = $0.50.  Now that is what the sales tax equals to in money terms instead of a percent.  Finally, we add the sales tax and the total food cost: $6.25 + $0.50 = $6.75
