This period encompasses much of what is known today as the Industrial Revolution; it began in Great Britain with the use of steam to power factories and machines, and was soon followed by European countries and the US. The Industrial Revolution resulted in an unprecedented societal shift. People began to move from a rural lifestyle to an urban one, otherwise known as urbanization. Consequently, the mass production of raw materials and products took place in industrialized nations, which led to an economic boom. With the unprecedented availability of products and funds, scientists, engineers, and inventors were able to give us such advancements as motorized vehicles, and electricity. Not only did industry set the stage for the advancement of technology, but it also led to legislation like minimum wage and child labor laws. Unfortunately, not all consequences were beneficial; the environment suffered greatly and health & safety became a common concern.
