Hi Charlize C.,
For y as a function of x, (example: y = x + 1), means that the value of y depends upon the value of x. The term function of x can be written as f(x) which is stated as f of x. We can use the variable y is (=) a function of x, or y = f(x).
For example y = x + 1, we can write this as f(x) = x + 1, it is the same because y = f(x). If we say x = 2 we can write f(2) = 2 + 1 = 3, where we have replaced both x's with 2 and solved. And y = f(2) = 3 or y = 3.
So if f(70) = 70 or f(x) = x, because if we plug in 70 we get 70. And if f(x) = x, then y = x. The answer.
I hope this helps, Joe
