You can use either substitution or elimination to solve the system:
Substitution method: Replace y with (-3x+2) in second equation.
x-(-3x+2)=2
Solve for x: 4x-2=2; 4x=4; x=1
Plug in 1 in second equation: 1-y=2; -y=1; y=-1
The solution to the system is (1, -1)
Elimination method: Rewrite second equation in slope intercept form: -y=-x+2.
Add the two equations together: y = -3x + 2
-y = - x + 2
_________
0 = -4x + 4
Solve for x: 4x = 4; x=1
Plug in 1 in second equation: 1-y=2
Solve for y: y=-1
Same solution (1,-1)
