y + x = 1
There are several ways to solve this. Here is one way. From the top equation, get
y = 2x - 4
Then plug this expression for y into the bottom equation and get
(2x - 4) + x = 1
Solve this last equation for x and get
3x = 5
x = 5/3
Plug this result for x into either equation and get y. Using the bottom equation,
y + 5/3 = 1
y = -2/3
Test the answer.
