Let Donald's age be represented by x. We know that Marty is 20, and also that Marty is 10 more than 2 times x. As an equation, this translates to 20 = 10 + 2x. When you solve for x, you have x=5. So Donald is 5 years old.

In age problems, there are 2 issues to keep in mind. The first is how to set up the equation. The second is time: past, present, and future. This one is easier because it deals only with the present. So all we have to do is set up the equation based on what we read. Marty is 20. M=20. Marty is 10 more than two times Donald's age. So M= 2D + 10. Put in the 20 for M. 20= 2D + 10. Then solve for D. Subtract 10 from each side. Then divide by 2 to get D alone. 10= 2D 10/2 = D D= 5. Donald is 5.01/29/20
