Trail mix- Assorted dried fruits sells for $5.50 per pound. How many pounds of mixed nuts selling for $4.75 per pound should be mixed wit h 10 pounds of dried fruit to obtain a trail mix that sells for $4.95 per pound?

This is a weighted average problem.

10 * 5.5 + x * 4.75 = (10 + x)* 4.95 => 55 + 4.75x =49.5 + 4.95x => 5.5 = .20x => x = 27.5 lbs of mixed nuts must be added.

Checking: 55$ of dried fruit and 10 lbs + $130.625 and 27.5 lbs of nuts = $185.625 of mix and 37.5 lbs.

That's $4.95/lb for the mix.
