To calculate the mean (average) of a data set, you just have to add up all of the numbers and then divide by how many numbers were in the data set. For example, if you are given the following data set: 5,3,2,9,8, you would add together 5+3+2+9+8 and get 27. Then divide the total by 5 since there were 5 numbers in the data set: 27 divided by 5 = 5.4. Hope this helps! :)
