First lets give a quick definition to what slope is. Slope is rise over run, rise / run. In other words, slope is the change in y over the change in x.
The slope formula is: m = (Y2-Y1 )÷(X2-X1)
A vertical slope means that the change in X or (X2-X1) is 0 which break an important rule in mathematics because you can never have 0 in the denominator of a fraction. That is why a vertical slope is undefined.
