I once told somebody I wanted to be rich and famous and they said, "Get in line!" LOL
But seriously ... these days, it's easier than ever to make money as a musician; but harder than ever to make a lot of it.
Because of the digital revolution, anybody with a keyboard and a computer can make recordings and broadcast them online, and set up monetization. Consequently, there's more competition than ever.
The bottom line is that it's easier to make money. However, like everything in the entertainment industry, it still requires a great deal of luck to make a lot of money.
One of the things I do as a music teacher is strategize with my students on the best ways to present their talents. That often means making money. But more importantly, I help my students find just the right audience for them. That may be somewhere in their community. Or it may be online. Or they may just be learning an instrument for friends and family. Or even for themselves.
Remember, it's YOUR music. Do what you want with it. A good teacher will set you in the right direction for your success.
