The question gives a hint with the term, "Ratio."
To solve this problem, set up a ratio of b/g (b for boys and g for girls) and Solve for b.
b/g = 7/9
b/228 = 7/9 Fill in 228 (as given) for g for girls
b = (7 * 228) / 9 Multiply each side by 228
b = 177 boys
You have to round the answer to a whole number because you can't have a partial boy. Also, the original ratio of 7/9 was "approximately."
