asked 01/17/20Find three consecutive integers such that the sum of the largest and 5 times the smallest is -244.

Let the smallest integer be: x. Since our three integers need to be consecutive, they would be:
x, x + 1, and x + 2
The largest plus 5 times the smallest would be:
(x + 2) + 5(x) = - 244
x + 2 + 5x = - 244
6x + 2 = - 244
6x = - 246
x = - 41
The smallest integer is - 41.
That means the three integers are:
smallest: - 41
middle number: -41 + 1 = - 40
largest number: - 41 + 2 = - 39

Let the integers be represented by x, x+1, x+2
so largest is x+2 and 5 times the smallest is 5x.
x + 2 + 5x= -244
6x + 2 = -244
6x = -246
x = -41
Therefore the 3 consecutive integers are: -41, -40, -39
