Absolute Value Equations

Question

I am learning about absolute value equations. I am having some success with solving them, but have a hard time determining how many solutions are in one of these equations. How can I best determine the number of solutions in an absolute value equation?

Once you have isolated the absolute value isolated on one side of the equal sign, if the quantity on the other side of the equal sign is positive- there are 2 answers. If the quantity is equal to zero-there is one answer. If the absolute value quantity is negative, there will be no solution.
