As Erica states in her comment, there is not enough information to answer this problem. Having one point (x = 4, y = -8) is not enough to derive the equation.
One possibility would be y = x^3 -72
That equation would satisfy your point, but so would an infinite amount of other equations.
Since this is Algebra 1, that equation is not the one you are looking for, they are probably asking for the simplest equation which is
Y = -2x
In that case, when X = -4, Y = 8.
But again there is no way of knowing for sure without more information, most likely in the problem they gave you another point or an intercept.
