So this is a basic exercise in turning a word problem into an equation. In this case we would have:
The sum (addition) of two times a number (2x) squared (^2) and four (4).
So we could turn this into 2x^2 + 4
We cannot solve for this without more info, so I assume that you just need to write the equation. But if "a number" was for example was three here is how it would look:
Word: The sum of two times three squared and four
It sometimes becomes more clear if you include an actual number for "a number".
Number: 2(3)^2 +4 = 2(9) + 4 = 22
