So we would first write out the equation with the information give to us.
We know that Joseph drove for 3 hours at 40 km/hour. So that gives us (3 x 40).
We also know that Joseph drove for 2 hours at 65 km/hour). So we can write the equation (2 x 65).
Now we combine these two equations to find out how far Joseph went all together. We do this by adding the above two equations together:
(3 x 40) + (2 x 65) = Joseph’s total travel distance
(120) + (130) = Joseph’s total travel distance
250 = Joseph’s total travel distance
So now we know that Joseph traveled 250 km.
