How to solve the backwards equation of the line that passes through the given point and is perpendicular to the given line

You get the slope of the perpendicular line by taking the negative reciprocal of the first line. Slope of the first line can be calculated from its equation. When in the form y = mx + b, m is the slope.
In order to determine the equation of the perpendicular line through the point, solve for b = y - mx, plugging in x and y from the coordinates of the point, and the new m, which is the negative reciprocal of the first m.
Then you can write the new equation in the form y = mx + b, also known as the slope-intercept form.
