Recall that perimeter is the distance around a figure (or his yard in this case). If the yard is a rectangle, then the perimeter would be 2 tomes the length plus 2 times the width.
For a length of 6 feet and a perimeter of 20 feet:
P = 2l + 2w
20 = 2*6 + 2w
20 = 12 + 2w
8 = 2w
4 feet = w
The area of a rectangle is determined by:
A = l * w
A = 6 * 4
A= 24 square feet
