The French and Indian wars were when France joined forces with the Native Americans of New England. The wars changed France because it was in direct conflict with England, as New England was a British colony. It is no surprise then that during the American Revolution France allied itself with the colonies, namely in the person of the Marquis de Lafayette. It seems that Lafayette's entry into the war was the deciding factor in the American victory, when he defeated Cornwallis in Yorktown. Also the idea of Manifest Destiny of the Americans was in direct conflict with England's treaties with Native Americans. In fact, Squanto, who taught the early colonists how to fertilize their crops with fish, spoke English because he had been educated in England. Thus, while English society sought to make peace with Native Americans, American colonists had other aims, and were in alliance with France, with their Secretary of State being Benjamin Franklin himself. The society of Europe was changed because it calcified and reinforced the hostility between England and France and hurt the British economy which had been doing the most of its commerce with the richest colonies they owned, namely, the American colonies. France's economy also took a hit by its role in the French and Indian wars and the American Revolution.
